AccuRadio Song Of The Day-All Saints

Artist:All Saints
Song:Never Ever
Album:All Saints

As a 90s British girl group, All Saints are frequently compared to The Spice Girls. The big difference is that All Saints wrote their own songs. Never Ever was their one big hit in the US but they were a much bigger deal in England. All Saints were originally a trio. Melanie Blatt and Shaznay Lewis were backup singers and they formed All Saints with Simone Rainford. They released one single and Simone left. While looking for a replacement, Melanie's father met Canadian Nicole Appleton. She joined All Saints and brought her sister Natalie Appleton. They recorded a demo and signed with London Records in 1996. Of course the big problem was record companies wanted them to be The Spice Girls. But when their first single I Know Where It's At reached #4 on the British Singles chart and was a top 40 hit in the US, London thought All Saints could be big. The second single Never Ever reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the British charts. It was a worldwide hit and the album All Saints was certified Platinum. But there were already split rumours and Melanie got pregnant. Their second album Saints & Sinners was released in 2000 but was nowhere near as successful as the first album. They were still big in England though. But the girls weren't getting along and they split up in 2001. The CD All Saints is available as a budget CD. The Appleton sisters recorded as Appleton and Melanie and Shaznay recorded solo albums. But All Saints reunited and released the 2006 CD Studio 1. The album did OK but the reunion didn't last and Melanie says there will not be another reunion. She says the reunion was strictly for the money. All but Shaznay have appeared on British TV shows. I guess they are still celebrities in England. Shaznay has been active as a songwriter but there are rumours about her recording again. Here's the video for Never Ever by All Saints.
