The power pop band Odds had success mostly in their native country of Canada. Someone Who's Cool was their biggest hit in 1997. Odds was formed in 1987 in Vancouver by guitarist Craig Northey, guitarist Steven Drake, bassist Doug Elliott and drummer Paul Brennan. Northey and Drake both sang lead vocals. They started out as the cover band Dawn Patrol playing the Roxy in Vancouver. The name Odds came from discussions about their chances of success. They signed with Zoo Entertainment after a showcase in Los Angeles. After their 1991 debut CD Neopolitan, they got a break when Warren Zevon took them on tour and then made a guest appearance on the 1993 CD Bedbugs. They were getting positive reviews but they weren't able to break through. In 1995, Brennan left to join Big Sugar and he was replaced by former Bryan Adams drummer Pat Steward. Odds moved to Elektra for the 1995 CD Good Weird Feeling. Their single Truth Untold reached #15 on the Canadian charts. So it was their most successful album to date. They seemed to catch a break when Someone Who's Cool was supposed to appear on the second soundtrack CD for the sitcom Friends. Unfortunately, the CD was never released. The single still reached #2 on the Canadian charts and helped sell the album Nest in Canada. It would turn out to be Odds' biggest hit. The song was also used as the theme of the CBS sitcom Love Monkey. When Northey announced he was leaving Odds in 1999, they split up. You can get all their hits on this comp. After Northey released a 2002 solo CD, Odds reformed in 2007 with Murray Atkinson replacing Drake. Odds has since released one album and three EPs. They were the house band at Canada Hockey House during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. They don't seem to be active right now.
