Artist:Jenny Galloway, Siobhan McCarthy, Louise Plowright
Song:Dancing Queen
Album:Mamma Mia!: A Decca Broadway Original Cast Album

Mamma Mia! is a jukebox musical based on the songs of the very popular Swedish group ABBA. Despite what it says on the CD cover, the CD is of the London cast. Jukebox musicals have become very popular on Broadway, London and they are a great way for fans to hear fresh versions and see elaborate stage productions of their favourite songs. Usually the musical is produced with the approval of the original artist. Producer Judy Craymer first met with ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Anderssen in 1983. They eventually let her produce a musical and she hired Catherine Johnson to write the book. There is a story but as with most jukebox musicals, Mamma Mia! is all about performing ABBA's hits on stage. Mamma Mia! opened in London in 1999 and a version of the show still runs in London's West End today. It also ran on Broadway beginning in 2001 until it finally closed Sept. 2015. And it was turned into a 2008 film. So Mamma Mia! has been very successful. The cast on this CD is from the original 1999 London cast. Dancing Queen is performed by Jenny Galloway, Siobhan McCarthy and Louise Plowright. All three are British TV and stage veterans but not well known otherwise. Jenny is best known for playing Madame Thenardier in the musical Les Miserables. Siobhan is best known for the British TV series Bad Girls. Louise was a regular on the British TV series EastEnders. She recently died of pancreatic cancer. ABBA fans should check out Mamma Mia!. The rest of us will watch something else. Here's Jenny Galloway, Siobhan McCarthy and Louise Plowright performing Dancing Queen on British TV.
