British soul singer Seal scored his only number one hit when Kiss From A Rose appeared in the 1995 hit film Batman Forever. He's had a few other hits and he's a bigger deal in England. He was born Olusegan Olumide Adeola Samuel Feb. 16, 1963 in London, England. His father is Brazilian and his mother is Nigerian. The scars on his face are the result of a form of lupus. It looks like Seal is a childhood nickname. Seal earned a degree in architecture. While working construction jobs, he started singing in clubs. He met the popular house producer Adam "Adamski" Tinley. Seal sang lead on the 1990 single Killer which topped the British charts. This got the attention of veteran producer Trevor Horn and Seal signed with his ZTT label distributed by Warner Bros. His debut album Seal was released in 1991 and the single Crazy reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was certified Platinum and it did even better in England. Seal's second album also titled Seal was released in 1994. The first single Prayer For The Dying was a minor hit. So Warners was looking for a bigger hit. They got it when Kiss From A Rose was used in the 1995 hit film Batman Forever. The song topped the charts and the album Seal was certified 4XPlatinum. The Batman Forever soundtrack CD was also a big seller and there is also a CD containing Elliot Goldenthal's score from the film. Seal won three Grammys including Record of the Year. But Seal didn't even like the song. He wrote it in 1987 and only showed it to Horn when they were looking for songs for Seal's second album. Seal had recorded a demo but he discarded the tape. Horn heard about the song and kept bugging Seal until Seal finally agreed to play it for him. Seal credits Horn for making the song a hit. A few of Seal's other songs have charted but he hasn't been able to repeat the success of Kiss From A Rose. This budget comp is a good intro to his music. It is also available in a couple of deluxe editions, one with a disc of rarities and the other with a live DVD. Seal's latest CD 7 was released Nov. 2015. He plans to tour Europe later this year. He's a much bigger star in Europe than in the US. Seal married supermodel Heidi Klum in 2004. They had four kids and then divorced in 2012. He is currently dating Aussie model Erica Packer and she is expecting his child. Here's the video for Kiss From A Rose by Seal. There were two videos for this song.
