Of course Eric Burdon is best known as lead singer of The Animals and lead singer of War. But it might surprise you that he is still around today making pretty good music. He was born May 11, 1941 in Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England. He joined The Animals in 1962 and he was lead singer on their biggest hits like House of the Rising Son. After Alan Price left The Animals in 1966, Burdon continued to lead the band until they split up in 1968. Then he moved to San Francisco and he recorded Spill The Wine with War. He left War in 1971 and since then Burdon has recorded and toured as a solo artist. His music is blues rock. Most of his success has been in Europe. Devil Run is from Burdon's 2006 album Soul of a Man. Burdon dedicated the album to Ray Charles, John Lee Hooker and the city of New Orleans. The album was released on the German label SPV who are mainly a heavy metal label. The album producer is drummer Tony Braunagel who is best known as a member of the 70s group Back Street Crawler with Paul Kossoff and John "Rabbit" Bundrick of Free. Devil Run was written by Bundrick and it was on a solo album he recorded in the 70s. Other musicians include guitarist Johnny Lee Schell from Bonnie Raitt's touring band, British born but New Orleans based pianist Jon Cleary, bassist James Hutchinson from Bonnie Raitt's band and veteran bluesman Rod Piazza on harmonica. Burdon's latest CD 'Til Your River Runs Dry was released in 2013 and Braunagel is still his producer. His albums do very well in Europe and he's currently on tour.
