AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Earl Scruggs and Friends

Artist:Earl Scruggs and Friends
Song:Foggy Mountain Breakdown
Album:Earl Scruggs and Friends

Of course Earl Scruggs is one of the all time greats of bluegrass music. He invented the three finger banjo picking style. Of course he is best known for his days with Lester Flatt creating classics like Foggy Mountain Breakdown. Flatt and Scruggs split up in 1969 mainly because Flatt didn't want to play anything but traditional bluegrass and Scruggs wanted to spread his wings. So beginning in 1970 Scruggs led the Earl Scruggs Revue. It looks like Scruggs retired in the mid-80s. But then he returned and this 2001 CD Earl Scruggs and Friends is a must for his fans. The album was produced by Scruggs' son Randy Scruggs who toured with his dad as part of The Earl Scruggs Revue. This all star version of Foggy Mountain Breakdown sure is a lot of fun. All the special guests solo including Glen Duncan on fiddle, Randy Scruggs on guitar, Steve Martin on banjo, Vince Gill on guitar, Marty Stuart on mandolin, Gary Scruggs on harmonica, Albert Lee on guitar, Paul Shaffer on piano, Jerry Douglas on dobro and Leon Russell on piano. And of course Earl Scruggs himself on banjo. Other special guests on the album include Elton John, Sting, Dwight Yoakam, Rosanne Cash and John Fogarty. This CD is a must for Earl Scruggs fans. Scruggs continued to tour occasionally until his death on Mar. 28, 2012 at age 88. Here's the video for Foggy Mountain Breakdown by Earl Scruggs and Friends.
