This 1986 Southern Rock throwback was the the only big hit for The Georgia Satellites. They are perceived as a one hit wonder but some of their other songs charted. I would say that they are a one album wonder. The Georgia Satellites are from Atlanta led by lead singer, guitarist and main songwriter Dan Baird. In 1980, he formed Keith and the Satellites with lead guitarist Rick Richards, bassist Keith Christopher and drummer David Michaelson. Christopher and Michaelson were soon replaced by Dave Hewitt and Randy Delay and the band name was changed to The Georgia Satellites. A demo got the attention of Kansas producer Jeff Glixman. But the band split up before an album could be recorded. Richards formed The Hellhounds with bassist Rick Price and drummer Mauro Magellan. Baird joined The Woodpeckers. When The Georgia Satellites demo was released as an EP in 1985, Baird joined The Hellhounds and they became The Georgia Satellites. They soon signed with Elektra Records and the Glixman produced the 1986 album Georgia Satellites. Keep Your Hands To Yourself reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and it went into heavy rotation on MTV. The album reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 200. The problem was subsequent singles did not do well. There was hope when their cover of Hippy Hippy Shake from the film Cocktail reached #45 on the Billboard Hot 100. But there were no hits from the 1988 album Open All Night and the album didn't sell. After a third album was unsuccessful, Baird left to go solo. This budget comp covers their Elektra recordings. Richards still leads The Georgia Satellites. Baird first recorded solo in 1992. He has led his current band Homemade Sin since 2005 and they released a new CD in 2015.
