AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Jean Carne

Artist:Jean Carne
Song:Closer Than Close
Album:Closer Than Close: The Best Of Jean Carne

Jean Carn started out as a jazz singer in the 70s usually working with her sax player husband Doug Carn. After they split, she turned to R&B and had success with Philadelphia International. She also worked with Norman Connors and sang his 1975 hit Valentine Love with Michael Henderson. Jean recorded four albums for Philadelphia International and she had modest success on the R&B charts with songs like Don't Let It Go To Your Head. She also scored with the 1980 duet with Al Johnson I'm Back For More. Then she moved to Motown for the 1982 album Trust Me. As with her final album on PI, Trust Me was produced by Norman Connors. When the album didn't do well, Jean added an "e" to her name on the advice of a numerologist. Then she signed with Atlantic's Omni label and released the 1986 album Closer Than Close. The title song was Jean's only number one R&B hit. Most of the album was produced by sax player Grover Washington Jr. The only other act Washington had produced was the jazz group Pieces Of A Dream. Closer Than Close was written by Fat Larry's Band singers Brandi Wells and Terry Price. Jean recorded two albums for Omni. She's still around but she hasn't recorded much in recent years. This comp from The Right Stuff has all her hits. Here's a video for Closer Than Close by Jean Carne.
