AccuRadio Song Of The Day-The O'Jays

Artist:The O'Jays
Song:Christmas Ain't Christmas (Without The One You Love)
Album:Forever Soul: Christmas

So here's a long lost Christmas single that you probably haven't heard before. Most fans should be familiar with the O'Jays' 70s hits. This Christmas song was recorded before they had their big run. the O'Jays had been around since the early 60s. They had some minor hits but things didn't really click until they got together with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. Gamble and Huff set up Neptune Records with Chess distribution. They released some singles and a couple of albums including The O'Jays In Philadelphia. Then they left Chess and and started Philadelphia International (PI) with Columbia distribution. The deal was more lucrative in the first place and they quickly became one of the hottest labels in music. Christmas Ain't Christmas was written by Gamble and Huff. The single was released in 1969 on Neptune and then re-released on PI in 1970. It was never a hit but I think classic soul fans and especially O'Jays fans will enjoy it. You can get it on this Sony various artists budget comp that also has a rare James Brown Christmas song. The O'Jays released a Christmas album on EMI in 1991. But Christmas Ain't Christmas was only released as a single. You won't find it on an O'Jays album, only on various artists comps. Here's a video for Christmas Ain't Christmas (Without The One You Love) by The O'Jays.
