AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Pete Robbins

Artist:Pete Robbins
Song:Sweet Child O' Mine
Album:Pyramid

Sax player Pete Robbins is a mainstay of today's New York jazz scene. He records occasionally and tours with his Transatlantic Trio. This cover of the Guns 'N' Roses song Sweet Child O' Mine is from his latest CD. He was born Nov. 28, 1978 in Queens, NY but he grew up in Andover, MA. After studying at Tufts University and the New England Conservatory of Music, Robbins moved to New York City in 2002 and he has been a part of the jazz scene since then. He first recorded as a leader in 2002. He has performed with Vijay Iyer, John Hollenbeck, John Zorn, Craig Taborn and many others. Sweet Child O' Mine is from the 2015 CD Pyramid on his own Hate Laugh Music through CD Baby. Musicians are Vijay Iyer on piano, Norwegian bassist Eivind Opsvik and Tyshawn Sorey on drums. Robbins mostly writes his own songs. When asked why he covered Sweet Child O' Mine, Robbins says it was his favorite song when he was a child. When Robbins tours, he tours with his Transatlantic Trio that is on this video clip. The band is Danish bassist Mikkel Ploug and drummer Kevin Brow. Robbins recorded the 2011 album Live In Basel with this band. Robbins usually plays New York clubs but I expect he will tour the jazz festival circuit later this year. Here is the Pete Robbins Transatlantic Trio performing Sweet Child O' Mine at Bogui Jazz in Madrid, Spain Apr. 12, 2012.
